Covid-19 Policy and Safety

It has been a hard year for everyone, especially our kids. At Wondergy we're really looking forward to getting back to putting much needed smiles on faces with fun and exciting science - safely.

We've formed our Covid-19 safety measures using guidance from the CDC, our local Pennsylvania and New Jersey government recommendations, and other responses across the nation.

We're proceeding with scheduling shows locally in the summer and nationally in late September based on the following current information and assumptions.

Informed Decision

We want you to feel comfortable making an informed decision to schedule a show with us. Here's what you should know up front.

What you need to know.

Our national tour runs from September 2021 to June 2022. If you would prefer your show to be held later in our tour rather than in the fall, we completely understand and will try our best to adjust scheduling where possible.

You've been doing this for over a year now, and have developed safety solutions and norms that your students are familiar with. We respect that. We're absolutely willing to work with your school's safety practices and layer them on top of our own.

All of our performers and staff will be fully vaccinated. As you read the rest of our policy, please keep in mind there will be extremely low risk of Covid-19 transmission from our performers to any of your staff or students.

Due to the nature of our tour, performers will travel across state lines.

There is no fee for canceling or rescheduling your show for reasons related to Covid-19.

When you confirm your show date with us, we will ask that you sign a waiver stating that Wondergy cannot be held liable if anyone contracts Covid-19 at our event.

What happens in our shows.

Our shows are typically interactive and involve several volunteers.

Our shows are audience driven and use a Socratic 'question and response' method. What this means is our performers have historically walked through the audience to take questions and answers, sometimes leaning down close to children to hear what they're saying. We understand that schools might not be ready for us to approach students up close in the fall and will adjust our show format according to what is safest at the time.

Volunteers are selected from the audience, approach our performers, and touch props that performers guide them through using. Props will be sanitized before and after each volunteer, and only one volunteer will be on stage at a time.

While we love engaging student volunteers as part of the show, we can choose vaccinated teachers or staff as volunteers instead at your request.

Safety Measures

Wondergy staff takes Covid-19 very seriously. We have been handwashing frequently, sanitizing equipment, and socially distancing since the beginning of the pandemic and will continue to do so - inside and outside of our shows.

Audiences and Special Packages

Hopefully, it will be safe to gather normally by the time we are performing.

In the event that gathering restrictions are still in place, what your audience will look like is up to your school and local restrictions. Want fewer than 50 students spaced out in your gymnasium? Classes together but distanced from each other? We can make almost any arrangement work with the help of your staff.

We're also offering socially distanced, small audience packages. We can set up in your gymnasium and host short, ~30 minute shows back to back for small audiences or individual classes. These packages are priced differently than single shows. Please contact us for more information.

Ventilation

We understand that proper ventilation is one of the most important safety measures we can take to stop the spread of Covid-19. We strongly support any ventilation measures you are able to put in place.

Drafts will sometimes make the drones in DroneScience's dancing swarm finale crash or otherwise fail. We hope you'll understand if we choose not to run our finale in very drafty spaces, or if lots of our drones fall down. (We kind of suspect the kids like when they crash anyway!) Since our shows are unscripted, we're happy to modify the content to fit the needs of the space, or even explore the science of why something goes awry.

Outdoor and Virtual Shows

Unfortunately, DroneScience cannot be performed outside.

CoolScience can easily be performed outside and is already ideal for audiences of less than 75.

LaserScience can be performed outside after dark as long as we have a something project onto, like a screen, wall, hill, or even a beach! It's awesome for a science fair or fundraiser night.

Currently we don't offer virtual shows, but we're considering adding one if we have enough interest. Please let us know if you'd be interested in a virtual show!

Community Healing

In closing, we want to thank you for being concerned about your staff and students. It's been such a challenging time for teachers and school staff. As educators we really recognize your struggle to innovate, include all students, and try to keep learning fun during all of this. We applaud you, loudly.

We're really hoping our shows can be a part of community healing as we move forward into a safe future together, one where it's okay to gather together, have fun, be excited, and learn in a hands-on way again.

If you have any questions about our policy or want to discuss scheduling a show, reach out to us at science@wondergy.com or call us at (866) 653-2853. We're looking forward to hearing from you.
